A WHITE WOMAN FROM ATLANTA WAS ARRESTED LAST THURSDAY FOR DEFACING THE STATUE OF GENERAL JOHN. B. GORDON ON THE GROUNDS OF THE STATE CAPITAL. GORDON IS AN UPSON COUNTY NATIVE WHO SERVED AS A CONFEDERATE GENERAL IN THE CIVIL WAR.
55 YEAR OLD JAMIE LOUGHNER WROTE "TEAR DOWN" ON THE STATUE IN YELLOW CHALK AND SHE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BY CAPITAL POLICE AND CHARGED WITH FELONY INTERFERENCE WITH GOVERNMENT PROPERTY AND MISDEMEANOR CRIMINAL TRESPASS.

GENERAL GORDON'S FATHER PASTORED A BAPTIST CHURCH IN SOUTHERN UPSON COUNTY.
