BRITTY DICKENS RECEIVES 2014 SERVICE TO MANKIND AWARD FROM THOMASTON SERTOMA CLUB.

BRITTY  SERVED  HIS  COUNTRY  DURING  WORLD  WAR 11  IN  THE  U.S. NAVY  ABOARD AN  AIRCRAFT  CARRIER IN  THE ATLANTIC.

HE  WAS  LATER HONORED WITH  THE  TITLE  OF  POST  COMMANDER OF  THE YEAR FOR THE  STATE  OF  GA. BY  THE  VETERANS OF  FOREIGN  WARS.

PAST  WORSHIPFUL MASTER  OF  MORNING  STAR  LODGE  #27 FREE AND  ACCEPTED  MASONS, PRESIDENT  OF  BOTH  THE KHIRAH  SHRINE CLUB  AND SHRINE  ORIENTAL  BAND.

AS  A  MEMBER  OF  THE  URMC  AUXILIARY  HAS  COMPILED  OVER  1500  VOLUNTEER  HOURS  IN THE  GIFT  SHOP.

A  MEMBER  OF  THE  UPSON  HISTORICAL SOCIETY  AND  ARCHIEVES  VOLUNTEER , HAS  MADE  THE  STUDY  OF  LOCAL  HISTORY  ACCESSIBLE THROUGH  HIS  ACTIVITIES.

$500 REWARD OFFERED BY THOMASTON-UPSON COUNTY SCHOOLS AND PIKE COUNTY SCHOOLS AFTER A SERIES OF BOMB THREATS

THREE  BOMB  THREATS  AT  UL  HIGH,  THE  LATEST,  MONDAY.  AT  PIKE COUNTY  HIGH  LAST  FRIDAY  AND  MONDAY.  THE   $500  REWARD  IS  FOR  THE  ARREST  AND  CONVICTION  OF  THOSE  RESPONSIBLE  FOR  THE  BOMB  THREATS.

 

THE  UPSON  COUNTY  AND  PIKE COUNTY  SHERIFF’S  DEPARTMENTS  ARE  INVESTIGATING  THE   BOMB  THREATS.

GRIFFIN NAMES A NEW POLICE CHIEF

CITY  MANAGER  KENNY  SMITH  ANNOUNCED  WEDNESDAY,  STEVEN  DALE  HEATON,  RECENTLY   CHIEF  OF  THE  FAYETTEVILLE  POLICE  DEPARTMENT  WILL   ASSUME  THE  POST  APRIL   12.

GRIFFIN’S  POLICE  CHIEF  FRANK  STRICKLAND  IS  NOW  FULL-TIME  PUBLIC  SAFETY  DIRECTOR  AFTER  A  REORGANIZATION  OF  THE  POLICE  DEPARTMENT  WITH SOME  POSITIONS  PHASED-OUT. HEATON  HAS   31  YEARS  IN  LAW  ENFORCEMENT,  SALARY   $76,000  ANNUALLY .

UL HIGH SCHOOL PLACED IN LOCK-DOWN WED. FOR A TWO HOUR DRUG SWEEP

UPSON  COUNTY  SHERIFF  DAN  KILGORE  SAID  NO  ILLEGAL DRUGS  WERE  FOUND  AND  NO  ARRESTS  WERE  MADE  IN  THE  DRUG  SEARCH  THAT  INVOLVED  K-9  UNITS  FROM  THE  GA.  DEPARTMENT OF  CORRECTIONS,  THOMASTON  POLICE  DEPARTMENT,  TAYLOR  COUNTY  AND   MERIWETHER  COUNTY.

THE  SHERIFF SAID  THE  BOARD OF  EDUCATION   APPROVES  OF  THE  DRUG  SEARCHES  AND  IT  WAS  THE  2ND   AT  THE  HIGH  SCHOOL  THIS  SCHOOL  TERM, ANOTHER  WAS  CONDUCTED  AT  THE  MIDDLE  SCHOOL.

ACCORDING  TO  P.D.  INVESTIGATORS,  MARY  ELLEN  GOODMAN,  17 OF  729  WEST  MAIN  ST.  WAS  LOCATED  WEDNESDAY  MORNING. HER  MALE  COMPANION,  JAMES  VINCENT  HARRIS,  AGE   24  IS  IN  LOCK-UP  AT   THE  UPSON  COUNTY  JAIL  AND  COULD  FACE  CHARGES.
