ACCORDING TO UPSON COUNTY'S CHIEF APPRAISER—CHARLES MCKEEAN—THE TAX ASSESSORS OFFICE SENT MAILERS THIS WEEK FOR ALMOST 16,000 PARCELS OF PROPERTY. IF YOU OWN PROPERTY IN UPSON COUNTY YOU SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED ONE.
THE OFFICE HAS ANNOUNCED A RESIDENTIAL VALUATION INCREASE FOR 2018— AND UPSON COUNTY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN NORMAN ALLEN ADDRESSED IT AT TUESDAY'S MEETING.
THE CHAIRMAN SAID A VALUE INCREASE DOES NOT ALWAYS EQUAL A TAX INCREASE—BUT IT COULD. HE MENTIONED COUNTY TAXPAYERS HAVE NOT SEEN A TAX INCREASE IN 5 YEARS. BUT A NOTICE FROM THE TAX ASSESSORS OFFICE-- IN ALL THE MAILINGS EXPLAINS —THE TAX BURDEN IS BETTER EQUALIZED WHEN VALUES ARE IN COMPLIANCE, AND EVERYONE PAYS THEIR FAIR SHARE—THAT COULD RESULT IN A MILLAGE RATE REDUCTION AND KEEP THE COUNTY IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE STATE -- AVOIDING STATE LEVIED FINES OR LOSS OF GRANTS.
