GA DOT ANNOUNCES OPEN HOUSE FOR ROUNDABOUT PROJECT 19 N. TO ATWATER RD.

 

DEC.4, 2012  AT  THE  GA.  DOT  DISTRICT   3  OFFICES  IN  NORTHSIDE,  PUBLIC  INFORMATION  OPEN  HOUSE  CONCERNING  A  PROPOSAL  TO  WIDEN  AND  RECONSTRUCT  19  NORTH  FROM  EAST-WEST  COUNTY  ROAD TO  ATWATER  ROAD  IN  THOMASTON/UPSON  COUNTY.

THE  PROPOSED  PROJECT  WOULD  INCLUDE  THE  REALIGNMENT  OF  DELRAY  ROAD  TO  INTERSECT  U.S. 19 AT  JIMMERSON  ROAD  AND  CONSTRUCTION OF A  PROPOSED  ROUNDABOUT AT  THE  INTERSECTION.

AT  THE  OPEN  HOUSE,  THE  PUBLIC  CAN  ASK QUESTIONS,  VIEW THE  PROPOSED  PROJECT,  ASK  QUESTIONS  AND  COMMENT  ON   THE  PROPOSAL  4  TO  6PM. THE  OPEN  HOUSE  WILL  BE   INFORMAL  AND  THE PUBLIC  CAN  ATTEND  ANYTIME DURING  THESE  HOURS,  THERE  WILL  BE  NO  FORMAL PRESENTATION.

THOMASTON POLICE ARREST TWO BROTHERS FOR ARMED ROBBERY

TGA  NEWS   WAS  TOLD RODRICK  AND  DENNIS  JORDAN   OF  WILLOW  TREE  APARTMENTS  WERE  TAKEN  INTO  CUSTODY  AND BOND  DENIED.

POLICE  RECEIVED  A  REPORT  OF  A HOME  INVASION  ON  SOUTH  CHURCH  ST.  ACROSS FROM  SUNOCO  CONVIENCE  STORE.  AN   ELDERLY  BLACK  MALE  WAS   JUMPED  AND  HIS  WALLET  STOLEN.

SUSPECT DENIED BOND ALLEGED CHILD ABUSE CASE

THOMASTON  POLICE  DEPARTMENT  CHARGED,  REGINALD  SIMS ,25 OF  300 AVE. F.  APARTMENT  4—FAR  VIEW  APARTMENTS  WITH  CRUELTY   TO  CHILDREN.

THE  P.D.  SAID  A  ONE  YEAR  OLD  INFANT  WAS  LEFT  IN  THE  CARE  OF  SIMMS  AND  WHEN  THE   MOTHER  RETURNED  HOME  THURSDAY  MORNING,  THE  CHILD  WAS  HAVING  SEIZURE-TYPE   SYMPTOMS.  TRANSPORTED  TO  THE  E.R.  BY  UPSON   EMS, THEN  LIFE-FLIGHTED  TO  EGLESTON  CHILDREN’S  HOSPITAL  IN  ATLANTA.

   MONDAY  MORNING  ,  THE  CHILD  WAS  LISTED  IN  CRITICAL  CONDITION, AND  THE  POLICE  DEPARTMENT  SAID  THE  INVESTIGATION  IS  CONTINUING.

MAJOR  DAN  KILGORE  OF  UPSON S.O.  TOLD   101 NEWS,  THURSDAY,  THE  STATE  DEPARTMENT  OF  AGRICULTURE  AND  UPSON  ANIMAL  CONTROL  ARE  INVESTIGATING  POSSIBLE  CRUELTY  TO  ANIMALS  AFTER  AN  INJURIED   AND  ILL  HORSE  WAS  FOUND  AT  GRANTLING  ST. AND  CARTER  LOOP.

UPSON  COUNTY  COMMISSION  CHAIRMAN  MAURICE  RAINES  TOLD   101  NEWS , MONDAY , THE  APPLICATION   WINDOW  CLOSED  FRIDAY  FOR  THE  VACANT  POST  AND  THE  FINAL  TWO   APPS  WERE  FROM  STATESBORO, GA.  AND  THE  STATE  OF  MISSOURI.

 

THE  BOARD OF  COMMISSIONERS  WILL  REVIEW  THE  APPLICATIONS  AND  INTERVIEWS  COULD  BEGIN  IN  A  COUPLE  OF  WEEKS.

TRAFFIC FATALITY IN PIKE COUNTY

ACCORDING  TO  PIKE  CO.  S.O.   CHRISTOPHER  RYAN  HOOT  WILSON,  22 , OF  ZEBULON  DIED  IN  A  TRAFFIC  ACCIDENT  ON  BUFFINGTON  ROAD.  THE  WRECK  APPARENTLY  HAPPENED  SATURDAY  NIGHT, BUT  WAS  NOT  DISCOVERED  UNTIL  SUNDAY  AROUND  10AM.

 

MAJOR DOUG  MORRIS  SAID  THE   FORD  F-250  PICK-UP  WAS  TRAVELING  WEST  ON  BUFFINGTON  ROAD, NEAR  MILNER ,  SOMETIME  SATURDAY NIGHT, APPROACHED  A  BRIDGE,  HIT  A  GUARD  RAIL,  TRAVELED OFF  THE  BRIDGE  AND  LANDED  UPSIDE  DOWN  IN  A  CREEK.  WILSON,  THE  LONE  OCCUPANT  WAS PARTIALLY  EJECTED.

BOMB THREAT ARREST UL HIGH SCHOOL

ACCORDING  TO  MAJOR  DAN  KILGORE  OF  THE  UPSON  S.O., ON  FRIDAY,  OCT. 12, A BOMB  THREAT WAS  DISCOVERED  ON  THE  WALL  OF  THE  9TH  GRADE  BOYS  RESTROOM  AT  UL HIGH  SCHOOL.  DEPUTIES  LAUNCHED  AN  INVESTIGATION  AND  JOSHUA  DONOVAN  MEDLEY,  17  WAS  ARRESTED  AND  CHARGED  WITH  TRANSMITTING  A  FALSE PUBLIC  ALARM,  A  FELONY  UNDER  GA.  LAW.  BOND  SET  AT  $1000.

A  SIMILAR  BOMB  THREAT MADE  EARLIER  THIS  MONTH  IS  STILL  UNDER  INVESTIGATION,  MAJOR  KILGORE  SAID.

BILLY MITCHUM TO RETIRE AFTER 53 YEARS AS EMA DIRECTOR OF UPSON CO.

UPSON  COUNTY  COMMISSION  CHAIRMAN MAURICE  RAINES   MADE  THE  ANNOUCEMENT  AT  TUESDAY’S  MEETING, COMMENDING  AND  PRAISING MITCHUM  FOR  HIS  LONG  TIME  SERVICE TO  THE  COMMUNITY.

 

THE  CHAIRMAN  SAID  GEMA  WILL  INTERVIEW  THE   3  OR  4  FINALISTS  FOR  THE POST AND  MAKE  THE  HIRE  BEFORE  THE  END  OF  THE  YEAR.

 

CHAIRMAN  RAINES  SAID  FRIDAY,  OCT.12  IS  THE  DEADLINE  FOR  APPLICATIONS  FOR  THE  VACANT   POST OF  COUNTY  MANAGER  AND  A  DOZEN  HAVE  BEEN  RECEIVED.

CHAIRMAN SEZ IST MEDIATION SESSION PRODUCTIVE

AT TUESDAY’S  MEETING,  UPSON  COUNTY  COMMISSION  CHAIRMAN  MAURICE  RAINES  REPORTED  THE  FIRST  MEDIATION  SESSION  ON  THE  LOCAL  OPTION  SALES  TAX  SPLIT, LAST  FRIDAY,  WAS PRODUCTIVE.

 

THE FOUR  HOUR  SESSION  INVOLVED  THE  COUNTY,  CITY  OF  THOMASTON, AND  CITY  OF  YATESVILLE. THE  ISSUE  WENT  TO  MEDIATION  BY  STATE  LAW  WHEN  NO  ACCORD  WAS  REACHED.  MACON  ATTORNEY  RUSTY  GUNN  HAS  BEEN  RETAINED  FOR  $150  PER  HOUR  TO  CONDUCT  THE  SESSIONS.  NEXT  ONE  OCT.  22ND.

IF  NO  AGREEMENT  IS  REACHED  IN  MEDIATION  THE  ISSUE  WILL  BE  DECIDED  IN  SUPERIOR  COURT.  CHAIRMAN  RAINES  SAID  HE  WILL  PROVIDE  MORE  INFORMATION  TO THE  PUBLIC  ABOUT  THE  LOST  NEGOTIATIONS   AT  A  TOWN  HALL  MEETING   7PM  OCT.  18 AT  THE  CIVIC  CENTER.

ACCORDING  TO  THOMASTON  POLICE  CHIEF  DAN  GREATHOUSE,  TWO WHITE MALES  TRANSPORTED  TO  THE  E.R.  BY  UPSON  EMS,  TREATED  AND  RELEASED  FOR  WOUNDS  TO  THE  ABDOMEN, NECK AND  ARMS.

 

CHIEF  GREATHOUSE  SAID  THE  INCIDENT  HAPPENED  ON  AVE. L  AFTER  AN  EARLIER   EVENT    AT  MATTEWS  FIELD  DURING THE  HOMECOMING  FOOTBALL  GAME.

 

SEVERAL  YOUTHS  WERE  INVOLVED  , PERHAPS  JUVENILES    ,  ACCORDING  TO   THE  CHIEF , AND  MULITIPLE  ARRESTS  ARE  EXPECTED.

CITY OF THOMASTON GETS FAVORABLE RULING IN OPEN RECORDS LAW SUIT AGAINEST COUNTY OF UPSON.

ACCORDING  TO  A  PRESS  RELEASE  AT  TUESDAY’S  COUNCIL  MEETING,  SUPERIOR  COURT  JUDGE  FLETCHER  SAMS  HAS  ISSUED  AN  ORDER GRANTING  THE  CITY  ACCESS  TO  NEEDED  COUNTY  FINANCIAL  RECORDS  FOR  A  TAX  EQUITY  STUDY  AND  THE COUNTY WAS  ORDERED  TO  PAY  $5262  IN  ATTORNEYS  FEES  INCURRED IN  BRINGING  THE  LITIGATION.

THE  CITY  AND  COUNTY  AND  CITY  OF  YATESVILLE  HAVE  NOT  RESOLVED  ISSUES  IN  THE  LOCAL  OPTION  SALES  TAX  SPLIT   AND  THE  FIRST  SESSION  WITH  A  MEDIATOR  IS  SET  FOR  FRIDAY  9AM.
