AT TUESDAY’S MEETING, UPSON COUNTY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN MAURICE RAINES REPORTED THE FIRST MEDIATION SESSION ON THE LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX SPLIT, LAST FRIDAY, WAS PRODUCTIVE.
THE FOUR HOUR SESSION INVOLVED THE COUNTY, CITY OF THOMASTON, AND CITY OF YATESVILLE. THE ISSUE WENT TO MEDIATION BY STATE LAW WHEN NO ACCORD WAS REACHED. MACON ATTORNEY RUSTY GUNN HAS BEEN RETAINED FOR $150 PER HOUR TO CONDUCT THE SESSIONS. NEXT ONE OCT. 22ND.
IF NO AGREEMENT IS REACHED IN MEDIATION THE ISSUE WILL BE DECIDED IN SUPERIOR COURT. CHAIRMAN RAINES SAID HE WILL PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE LOST NEGOTIATIONS AT A TOWN HALL MEETING 7PM OCT. 18 AT THE CIVIC CENTER.
