CLERK SHOT AT DURING ROBBERY

THOMASTON   POLICE  CHIEF  DAN  GREATHOUSE  SAYS  THE  INVESTIGATION  CONTINUES  INTO  AN  ARMED  ROBBERY  AT  PHAGAN’S  FAST  MART,  19 SOUTH,  SATURDAY NIGHT.

TWO  BLACK  MALES  ENTERED  THE  STORE, ONE  WITH  A  HANDGUN  AND  THEY  WENT  BEHIND  THE  COUNTER   ,  GOING  THROUGH  THE  CASH  REGISTER.

THE  MALE  CLERK  LOCKED  THEM-IN,  AND  THE  GUNMAN NOTICED  AND  FIRED  ONCE  AT  HIM  AND  HIT   THE  LOTTERY  MACHINE.

THE  CLERK  UNLOCKED  THE  DOOR  AND THEY  FLED.

CITY OF THOMASTON ISSUED A PRESS RELEASE NOV. 20 OFFERING TO RESOLVE THE LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX ISSUE

 

THE  PRESS  RELEASE  SAYS  THE  COUNTY  OF  UPSON FILED  FOR  ARBITRATION  AGAINST  THE  CITY  OF  THOMASTON  NOV. 2,  STATING  THAT  THE  PARTIES WERE  UNABLE  TO  REACH  AN  AGREEMENT.  UNDER  GA. LAW,  THE  CASE  WILL  BE  HEARD BY  A  JUDGE FROM  OUTSIDE  THE  GRIFFIN  JUDICIAL  CIRCUIT. CITY  ATTORNEY JOEL  BENTLEY  SAYS  THAT  COULD BE  TIME-CONSUMING  AND  WHEN  IT WOULD  HAPPEN  IS  NOT  CLEAR.

ACCORDING  TO  ATTORNEY  BENTLEY,  IN  A  LETTER  DATED  NOV. 20  TO  THE  COUNTY’S  ATTORNEY,  HE  ADVISED  CITY  HALL  WOULD  ACCEPT THE  COUNTY’S  ORIGINAL  JULY/AUGUST  PROPOSAL  FOR  DIVISION  OF  THE  PROCEEDS, WITH  NEGOTIATIONS  TO  BEGIN IMMEDIATELY  REGARDING SERVICE  DELIVERY  AND  FUNDING.

GAULTNEY  TOLD  A  DEPUTY  HE  LEFT  A  LOAD  OF  CLOTHES  DRYING  AND  WHEN  HE  RETURNED   THE  RESIDENCE  WAS  FILLED  WITH  SMOKE.

EXTENSIVE  SMOKE, FIRE, WATER  DAMAGE,  ACCORDING  TO  THE  REPORT.

BIG COCAINE BUST BY NTF

THE  ASSISTANT   COMMANDER      OF  THE  AREA  NARCOTICS  TASK  FORCE   HEATH  EPPINGER   SAYS  BOND  HAS  BEEN  SET  FOR  $500,000  FOR   A   FEMALE   ARRESTED  WITH  APPROXIMATELY  83  GRAMS OF   SUSPECTED   COCAINE  ON  WEST  MOORE’S  CROSSING  ROAD.

THE  SUSPECT, CERLEY  BLAIR  SELF,  25  HAD  APPROXIMATELY  53.6  GRAMS  OF   SUSPECTED   CRACK  COCAINE  AND      29.3  GRAMS  OF  POWDER COCAINE.

AGENT  EPPINGER  SAID  THE  INVESTIGATION  IS CONTINUING.

ACCORDING  TO  A  PRESSS  RELEASE  FROM   THE  THOMASTON-UPSON  COUNTY  SCHOOLS , MELODY  GASKINS  HAS  BEEN  CHOSEN  2013-2014  SCHOOL  SYSTEM  TEACHER  OF  THE  YEAR. MRS. GASKINS  WAS  SELECTED  FOR  THE  SYSTEM HONOR  BY  A PANEL OF  SCHOOL  AND  COMMUNITY  JUDGES.  AREAS  OF  JUDGING INCLUDED A  WRITTEN  APPLICATION,  CLASSROOM  OBSERVATION,  AND A   PERSONAL  INTERVIEW. 

SHE  WILL  REPRESENT  THE  SCHOOL  SYSTEM  IN THE  2014  GA.  TEACHER  OF  THE  YEAR   COMPETITION.

BLACKSTON ELECTED CHAIR, KILGORE SHERIFF, HARPER RE-ELECTED CLERK OF CT.

IN  TUESDAY’S  ELECTION   FORMER  COMMISSIONER  RUSTY  BLACKSTON  WAS  ELECTED  CHAIRMAN  OVER  INCUMBENT  MAURICE  RAINES  WITH  ALMOST  52%  OF  THE  VOTE.  REPUBLICAN   BLACKSTON  RECEIVED  5669  VOTES,  RAINES 5262.

REPUBLICAN  DAN  KILGORE,  CHIEF  DEPUTY   AT  THE  UPSON  COUNTY  SHERIFF’S  DEPARTMENT    POLLED  67%  OF  THE  VOTE,   TO  WIN THE  SHERIFF’S  RACE   OVER    DEMOCRAT  JEFFERY   LITTLE  7465-3652.

TERESA  HARPER  WAS  RE-ELECTED  CLERK  OF  UPSON  SUPERIOR  COURT, WINNING  OVER RUSS  BRIDGES  WITH  63%,  6911-3922.

MITT  ROMNEY  WON  IN  UPSON    WITH    64% OF  THE  VOTE  OVER  PRESIDENT  OBAMA.

THE  CHARTER  SCHOOLS AMENDMENT  PASSED  IN  UPSON  WITH  53%  OF  THE  VOTE.

SKYDIVER INJURED SUNDAY AT THOMASTON-UPSON AIRPORT.

UPSON  COUNTY  S.O.  SAID  A   FEMALE  NURSE  FROM  GRAY, GA.  DEON  HUTCHISON  BROKE  HER  LEFT  ANKLE  WHEN  SHE  LANDED  IN A  GRASSY  AREA.

SHE  WAS  WITH A  GROUP  OF   NURSES  AND   SHE  WAS  STABILIZED  BY  UPSON  EMS AND TRANSPORTED   BY  PRIVATE  VEHICLE  TO  THE  MACON  MEDICAL  CENTER.

PEDESTRIAN HIT BY TRUCK PRONOUNCED DEAD AT SCENE

ACCORDING  TO  THE  UPSON  S.O. MARVIN  KENDRICK ADAMS , 78, OF  2935  BARNESVILLE  HIGHWAY  WAS  FOUND  FACE   DOWN  IN  THE  ROAD  ON  19  NORTH  IN  FRONT  OF  THE  COLONIAL  MOTEL,  THURSDAY EVENING.  HE  WAS  BLEEDING  FROM  THE  HEAD  AND  WAS  UNRESPONSIVE.

DEPUTY  CORONER  RICHARD  LEE  PRONOUNCED  MR.  ADAMS  DECEASED  AT  THE  SCENE.

THE  DRIVER  OF  A  CHEVROLET TRUCK  WAS  LISTED  AS  FREDRICK  NAPIER, 40  OF  886  TRICE  ROAD.  THE  TRUCK  HAD  DAMAGE  TO  THE  FRONT  AND  HOOD.

THE  GA.  STATE  PATROL  IS  INVESTIGATING.
