THE PRESS RELEASE SAYS THE COUNTY OF UPSON FILED FOR ARBITRATION AGAINST THE CITY OF THOMASTON NOV. 2, STATING THAT THE PARTIES WERE UNABLE TO REACH AN AGREEMENT. UNDER GA. LAW, THE CASE WILL BE HEARD BY A JUDGE FROM OUTSIDE THE GRIFFIN JUDICIAL CIRCUIT. CITY ATTORNEY JOEL BENTLEY SAYS THAT COULD BE TIME-CONSUMING AND WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN IS NOT CLEAR.
ACCORDING TO ATTORNEY BENTLEY, IN A LETTER DATED NOV. 20 TO THE COUNTY’S ATTORNEY, HE ADVISED CITY HALL WOULD ACCEPT THE COUNTY’S ORIGINAL JULY/AUGUST PROPOSAL FOR DIVISION OF THE PROCEEDS, WITH NEGOTIATIONS TO BEGIN IMMEDIATELY REGARDING SERVICE DELIVERY AND FUNDING.
