KELLIE ANNE  HATCHER,  SALUTATORIAN. THE  VALEDICTORIAN  IS  THE  SENIOR  WITH  THE  HIGHEST NUMERIC AVERAGE, SALUTORIAN,  SECOND HIGHEST  AVERAGE.

WOLVERTON  IS  THE  DAUGHTER  OF  ANDREA  WOLVERTON, HATCHER  THE  DAUGHTER  OF  STEVE AND  CRISTAL  HATCHER.

UPDATE -- ARMED ROBBERY BEST VALUE STORE SOUTH CHURCH, TUESDAY NIGHT

THOMASTON  POLICE  SAID  TWO  BLACK  MALES  ENTERED  THE STORE  AROUND  11;30PM, ONE  HELD  A  GUN  ON  THE  CLERK, THE OTHER  ONE  JUMPED  THE  COUNTER  AND  DEMANDED MONEY. ONE  OF  THE  MALES  THEN  FIRED  A  SHOT  IN  THE  DIRECTION  OF  THE  BEVERAGE  SECTION, WHILE  THE OTHER  ONE  GRABBED  CASH  FROM  THE  DRAWER.

BOTH  WERE  WEARING MASKS  AND  GLOVES  AND  FLED  ON  FOOT.

 

THOMASTON P.D. INVESTIGATING  FOUR  GUN  SHOTS  FIRED  INSIDE  A  RESIDENCE, 128 AVE. G.,   APRIL  26, 3AM.   TWO SHOTS  ENTERED  A   FRONT  BEDROOM,  TWO IN  THE  LIVING  ROOM  AREA  WHERE AN ADULT AND  A MINOR  WERE  SEATED  ON  A  COUCH. NO  ONE  WAS  INJURED. THEY  HEARD  A  CAR  SPEEDING  FROM  THE  SCENE.

UPSON COUNTY ELECTIONS BOARD HAS RECOMMENDED THE NUMBER OF VOTING PRECINCTS BE REDUCED TO THREE

 

THE  UPSON  COUNTY  COMMISSIONERS  TOOK  THE  RECOMMENDATION  UNDER  ADVISEMENT  AT  TUESDAY’S  MEETING.  IT COULD  SAVE  THE COUNTY  $20,000  PER  YEAR  ON  ELECTION  COSTS.

UNDER  THE  PROPOSAL,  TOWN  AND  LINCOLN  PARK  WOULD VOTE  AT  THE  CIVIC  CENTER,  ATWATER,  REDBONE, THE ROCK, AND  REEVES  WOULD  VOTE  AT  ATWATER PRECINCT,  AND  JUG, SALEM, AND YATESVILLE  WOULD  VOTE  AT  JUG  ON  LOGTOWN  ROAD.

ELECTIONS CHIEF  ROBERT  HANEY  SAID  IN  THE  LAST  FEW  ELECTIONS  UP  TO  50% OF  VOTING  HAS  BEEN   EARLY  VOTING.  IF  ADOPTED,  EARLY  VOTING WOULD  BE  HELD AT  THE  CIVIC  CENTER.

CHAIRMAN  RUSTY  BLACKSTON  TOLD  HOMETOWN  RADIO  NEWS  AFTER  THE  MEETING,  IT  WOULD   BE  AN  ADJUSTMENT ,  BUT  HE  SUPPORTS  THE  CHANGE.

TUESDAY NIGHT ANOTHER ARMED ROBBERY IN DOWNTOWN THOMASTON

CAPTAIN  SIDNEY  CORLEY  OF  THE  THOMASTON  POLICE  DEPARTMENT  SAID  A  LONE  MALE  WITH  A  HANDGUN   ENTERED  THE  BEST  VALUE  FOOD  STORE  AT  SOUTH  CHURCH  AND  THOMAS  TUESDAY NIGHT  AROUND   10PM.

THE P.D IS  STILL  INVESTIGATING  AN ARMED  ROBBERY  AT  COOK’S MARKET  ON  EAST  LEE  STREET,  DOWNTOWN,  A  COUPLE OF  WEEKS  AGO.

TRAFFIC SLOWED FROM THE COURTHOUSE SQUARE IN THOMASTON

ONE  LANE OPEN   NORTH  BOUND  ON  NORTH  CENTER  STREET  AND  ONE  LANE  OPEN SOUTH  BOUND  ON  SOUTH  CHURCH  STREET. WTGA  NEWS  WAS  TOLD  THE   CITY    OF  THOMASTON  IS  REPLACING   40 MANHOLES  AND   IT  COULD TAKE  TWO  MONTHS TO  COMPLETE  THE  JOB.

THOMASTON GSP POST INVESTIGATING TWO FRIDAY ACCIDENTS IN UPSON COUNTY

SHERIFF  DAN  KILGORE  SAID  A   15  YEAR  OLD  DIRT  BIKE  RIDER  RECEIVED CUTS  AND  BRUISES  AND  WAS  TRANSPORTED  TO THE  E.R.  AFTER  HE   HIT  A  CAR  IN  THE  LINCOLN PARK COMMUNITY.

INJURIES  REPORTED  AT  19  NORTH  AND  DEL RAY ROAD  INTERSECTION, FRIDAY  AT  NOON.  AN  SUV PULLED  OUT  OF  DEL  RAY  HEADED  SOUTHBOUND  AND  CRASHED INTO  A  NORTHBOUND  MOTORIST  ON   19. 

STATE FIRE MARSHALL CONTACTED TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF A MOBILE HOME FIRE THURSDAY NIGHT ON SALTER ROAD—HEAVY DAMAGE, ACCORDING TO UPSON S.O.

2015 GREAT GRIFFIN MAYFLING CANCELLED THIS WEEKEND.

ACCORDING  TO THE  GRIFFIN-SPALDING  CHAMBER  OF  COMMERCE, WET  GROUNDS  AT CITY  PARK  PLUS   A  SEVERE  WEATHER  FORECAST  FOR  SATURDAY  LEAD  TO  THE CANCELLATION.  THE  CHAMBER  IS WORKING  TO  SET  ANOTHER  DATE  FOR  THE  MAYFLING.

FLORIDA PILOT INJURED IN LAGRANGE PLANE CRASH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

LAGRANGE   GSP  POST  COMMANDER MAURICE  RAINES  TOLD  HOMETOWN  RADIO  NEWS—THE   51  YEAR  OLD  PILOT   SUFFERED  FACIAL  INJURIES  AND  WAS  AIR LIFTED  TO  ATLANTA  MEDICAL  CENTER.   A   TROOPER  FROM  THE  LAGRANGE  POST   WAS  FIRST  ON  THE  SCENE  AND  PULLED  THE   PILOT  FROM  THE  WRECKAGE.

THOMASTON  POLICE  SAID  NO  ONE  WAS  INJURED  IN  THE  TWO  VEHICLE CRASH. LT.  ANDREW  PIPPIN  SAID  A  CAR  PULLED  OUT  OF  R. ST.  INTO   19  AND  SLAMMED INTO  A  CAR  HEADED  NORTH—FLIPPING  IT  UPSIDE  DOWN.

HOME INVASION ARMED ROBBERY MONDAY 1500 BLOCK TRICE CEMETERY ROAD

ACCORDING  TO  UPSON  COUNTY  SHERIFF  DAN  KILGORE,  DEPUTIES  RESPONDED  AT   9;20AM  AND  FOUND  THE  TWO  OCCUPANTS  HAD  BEEN  BOUND  AND  ROBBED  AT  GUNPOINT  BY  TWO  MASKED  GUNMAN.

THEY  TOOK  AN  UNDETERMINED  AMOUNT  OF  CASH,  SEVERAL  WEAPONS  AND  FLED  IN  THE  VICTIMS AUTO,  LATER  RECOVERED  ON  TRIUNE MILL  ROAD  NEAR  WALKERFIELD ROAD  IN  SOUTHERN  UPSON  COUNTY.

THE  GBI  RESPONDED   TO  ASSIST  IN  THE  INVESTIGATION. 

ROBBERY AT COOK’S MARKET E. LEE LATE MONDAY NIGHT.

POLICE  RESPONDED  AND   YELLOW  CRIME  TAPE  WAS  AROUND  THE   BUSINESS  AT  MIDNIGHT. THOMASTON  POLICE  DEPARTMENT HAS NOT  RELEASED  DETAILS.

CITY OF THOMASTON HIRES NEW CITY CLERK AND FINANCE OFFICER

AT  TUESDAY’S  REGULAR  MEETING—THE  THOMASTON CITY  COUNCIL  HIRED  CLINTON  CHASTAIN OF  THOMASTON   WITH  THE  RETIREMENT  OF  DENNIS  TRUITT AT  THE  END OF MAY.

MR.  CHASTAIN  HAS  BEEN  COMPTROLLER  AT  GORDON  STATE  COLLEGE  FOR  THE PAST  SIX  YEARS.

POLICE CHIEF GREATHOUSE RESIGNING FOR A NEW POSITION WITH ROCIC

IN  A  PRESS  RELEASE, THOMASTON  POLICE  CHIEF  DAN  GREATHOUSE  HAS  ANNOUNCED HE  HAS  ACCEPTED  A  JOB  AS  A  LAW  ENFORCEMENT  COORDINATOR,  WITH   THE  REGIONAL  ORGANIZED  CRIME  INFORMATION  CENTER,  A  REGIONAL  INFORMATION  SHARING  SYSTEMS  CENTER.  THE  LAST  DAY  AS  CHIEF OF  POLICE WILL  BE  APRIL   25, 2015 AND  THE  NEW  POSITION  WILL  BEGIN  APRIL   26, 2015.

CHIEF  GREATHOUSE  WILL  PRIMARILY  BE  ASSIGNED  THE  GEORGIA  AREA  SERVICING APPROXIMATELY  179 ROCIC MEMBER  AGENCIES.

CHIEF  GREATHOUSE  SAID  ITS  BEEN  AN  HONOR  AND  PRIVILEGE  TO SERVE  AS  CHIEF OF  POLICE  FOR  A  COMMUNITY  WHERE  ME  AND  MY  FAMILY LIVE. THE  CHIEF  ADDED  HE  WILL  MISS  THE  P.D.,  BUT HE  IS  EXCITED  ABOUT THIS NEW  OPPORTUNITY  TO  WORK  WITH  LAW  ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES  ACROSS  THE  STATE  AND  REGION.

TRAVELING VIETNAM TRIBUTE WALL IN THOMASTON AT MATTEWS FIELD UNTIL SUNDAY AT 2PM.

 

THE  WALL  CONTAINS  THE  NAMES  OF  ALMOST   60,000   U.S. SOLDIERS  WHO  DIED  IN  THE  WAR,  14  FROM  UPSON  COUNTY. THE  SITE IS  LIGHTED  AND  THERE WILL BE ROUND  THE  CLOCK  SECURITY  FOR  VISITORS.
