UPSON COUNTY SHERIFF DAN KILGORE IS URGING PARENTS TO KEEP SMALL CHILDREN AWAY FROM BIG DOGS AFTER A ONE YEAR OLD CHILD WAS VICIOUSLY ATTACKED BY A PIT BULL AT 118 RU ALMAIN CIRCLE, SUNDAY.
THE CHILD, BRAXTIN MCCONNELL OF 126 B. STREET N.E. WAS LIFE FLIGHTED TO EGLESTON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN ATLANTA AFTER THE DOG RIPPED OPEN HIS LEFT CHEEK, BIT HIM BELOW THE LEFT EYE, AND AROUND THE MOUTH
ACCORDING TO THE S.O. REPORT- THE FAMILY WAS VISITING AND THE CHILD'S FATHER DAVID MCCONNELL WALKED HIM OVER TO A NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE WHERE THE DOG WAS ON A RUNNER. THE DOG OWNER JOSEPH MASON WARNED THE FATHER NOT TO BRING THE CHILD OVER, BUT MR. MCCONNELL SAID IN THE PAST THE DOG HAD BEEN FRIENDLY.
BEFORE THEY KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THE DOG GRABBED HOLD OF THE CHILD'S FACE AND WOULD NOT LET GO. THE TWO OF THEM FINALLY FREED THE CHILD AND HE WAS TAKEN TO THE E.R. AT URMC.
THE REPORT SAID AFTER THE ATTACK, THE MASON FAMILY TOOK THE DOG TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER.
