BIG HOUSE FIRE IN THOMASTON

THOMASTON FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO A BIG HOUSE FIRE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AROUND LUNCHTIME TIME AT NORTH CHURCH AND WALKER STREETS. 

A RESIDENCE TOTALLY INVOLVED WITH FLAMES SHOOTING 40 TO 50 FEET IN THE AIR AND SMOKE BILLOWING CLOSE TO 200 FEET. A WITNESS AT THE SCENE TOLD US IT COULD NOT BE SAVED.

FIRE CHIEF RENEE HARRIS SAID DUE TO THE STRENGTH OF THE BLAZE, HER DEPARTMENT TOOK A DEFENSIVE POSITION AND DIRECTED SEVERAL FIRE HOSES AT THE FLAMES.

ONE OF THE RESIDENTS, JESSICA O'NEAL WAS INSIDE WHEN IT STARTED AND TOLD FIREFIGHTERS SHE NOTICED SMOKE AT THE REAR OF THE HOUSE AND RETREATED WITH HER DOG. OTHER OCCUPANTS INCLUDE MICHAEL GARISH AND CODY ROGERS

THE HOUSE, VALUED AT $83,000 ON THE UPSON COUNTY TAX BOOKS, APPEARS TO BE A TOTAL LOSS. OWNER LISTED AS PLEDGER D. REEMS.

101 NEWS WAS TOLD THE RESIDENCE OF ROGER PINION, NEXT DOOR, WAS INTACT, IT HAD A SMOKEY SMELL BUT NO FIRE DAMAGE.

TRAFFIC WAS SLOWED IN THE AREA WHILE FIRE UNITS WORKED ON THE BLAZE. ONE WITNESS TOLD US HE HAD NEVER SEEN A BIGTIME HOUSE FIRE AND IT WAS QUITE A SPECTICLE.
