AT A MEETING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON--THE CITY OF THOMASTON ETHICS COMMITTEE DISMISSED ALL THREE ETHICS COMPLAINTS AGAINST MAYOR PRO TEM DOUG HEAD FOR STATING HIS SUPPORT OF REMOVING CONFEDERATE IMAGERY FROM THE CITY-COUNTY GOVERNMENT COMPLEX.
THE COMMITTEE MET IN EXECUTIVE SESSION WITH ITS ATTORNEY DAVID DUNAWAY FOR UNDER 30 MINUTES BEFORE RETURNING TO UNANIMOUSLY APPROVE A MOTION BY BOB COCHRAN. ATLANTA ATTORNEY STEVEN C. ADAMS, LORI LINDSEY AND RUSS WHEELESS FILED THE THREE ETHICS COMPLAINTS AGAINST HEAD CLAIMING HE VIOLATED THE CITY'S ETHICS ORDIANCE BY SPEAKING TO THE CONFEDERATE IMAGERY ISSUE AT A MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, INVOKING HIS RELIGIOUS FAITH AS ONE REASON.
RONALD VAN HOUTEN WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE AND CONSTANCE FLINT AND BOB COCHRAN ALSO SERVED. THE HEAD COMPLAINTS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE CITY OF THOMASTON THE ETHICS COMMITTEE HAD BEEN CALLED INTO AN ISSUE.
