UL STAR STUDENT, STAR TEACHER ANNOUNCED

THE 2019 STAR STUDENT AND STAR TEACHER AT UPSON-LEE HIGH SCHOOL WERE RECOGNIZED AT TUESDAY'S MEETING OF THOMASTON KIWANIS, STAR STUDENT ZAKIYA IMARA DAVENPORT SELECTED HER ENGLISH AND HOMEROOM TEACHER LARA GREER AS HER STAR TEACHER.

ZAKIYA IS THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE CRAIG DAVENPORT AND REGINA WEATHERS AND SHE PLANS TO MAJOR IN BIO-CHEMISTRY STARTING HER COLLEGE CAREER AT GORDON STATE COLLEGE IN BARNESVILLE. SHE TOLD KIWANIS SHE SELECTED MR. GREER HER STAR TEACHER BECAUSE SHE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR HER.

MS, GREER CALLED ZAKIYA A MODEL STUDENT WHO ALWAYS LISTENED AND PROVIDED FEED BACK ON HER STUDIES.

ZAKIYA WILL ADVANCE TO REGIONAL STAR STUDENT COMPETITON.

THOMASTON KIWANIS IS THE LOCAL SPONSOR OF THE STAR PROGRAM, AND RETIRED EDUCATOR DOYLE ALLEN IS CHAIR OF THE PROGRAM.
