THE
HOLLENVILLE OPRY IN PIKE COUNTY -- PROVIDING WHOLESOME
FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT SINCE 1991-- IS
CLOSING DOWN AND SATURDAY NIGHT'S PERFORMANCES WERE THE
LAST IN THE BUILDING.
ACCORDING
TO CHARLOTTE KIRKLAND, WIFE OF OPRY PRESIDENT HAROLD
KIRKLAND THE EQUIPMENT IS BEING MOVED OUT AND THE BOARD
IS LOOKING FOR A NEW LOCATION.
THE
HOLLENVILLE OPRY BOARD HAD BEEN LEASING FROM THE LANIER
JOHNSON ESTATE, A LEASE THAT EXPIRED IN DECEMBER AND THE
GRANDCHILDREN INVOLVED SOLD THE BUILDING TO HOLLENVILLE
PROPERTY OWNER JASON MASK—WHO HAS TOLD THE BOARD HE PLANS
TO REMODEL IT FOR HIS PERSONAL USE.
MS.
KIRKLAND TOLD ZOOM NEWS—MASK OFFERED THE OPRY USE OF
THE BUILDING RENT FREE ON A MONTH TO MONTH BASIS BUT THE
BOARD FELT IT BEST TO MOVE-ON AND DO SO ON A POSITIVE
NOTE.
THE
BOARD HAS LOOKED AT SEVERAL BUILDINGS IN THE VICINITY
OF HOLLENVILLE BUT WOULD ENTERTAIN ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A NEW
HOME—MS. KIRKLAND TOLD US.
SHE
ADDED --THE HOLLENVILLE OPRY HAS CARRIED ON A GREAT
MUSICAL TRADITION – IT HOPES TO CONTINUE AND HAS ONLY
PRECIOUS MEMORIES OF ALL THOSE SATURDAY NIGHTS .
