IDA Votes To Purchase Martha Mills Property

DURING THE NOVEMBER MEETING, MONDAY, THE THOMASTON-UPSON IDA VOTED TO EXERCISE AN OPTION TO PURCHASE THE OLD MARTHA MILLS PROPERTY AT 325 GOODRICH AVE. FOR $362,000 FROM VIRGINIA BUSINESSMAN JOHN RUSSELL. FOR THE DEAL TO GO THROUGH RUSSELL HAS AGREED TO CLEAR ALL LEINS AGAINST THE PROPERTY AND TOLD UPSON COUNTY TAX COMMISSIONER ANDY CHASTAIN, MONDAY, A CHECK IS IN THE MAIL FOR 2020 AND 2021 BACK TAXES OF $28,700.

THE IDA HAS FILED FOR A GRANT FOR FUNDS THAT IF APPROVED COULD BE USED TO CLEAN-UP THE SITE. IN THE PAST CITY AND COUNTY GOVERNMENTS HAVE MADE OVERTURES TO PURCHASE THE PROPERTY BUT LEGAL ENTANGLEMENTS STALLED EFFORTS.
