26 GA. STATE PATROL-THOMASTON IS INVESTIGATING AN ACCIDENT
AFTER A 5-YEAR OLD FEMALE CHILD WAS STRUCK BY A CAR WHILE
GETTING OFF A SCHOOL BUS ON THE YATESVILLE HIGHWAY BETWEEN
THE ROCK ROAD AND SULLIVAN CREEK, TUESDAY AFTERNOON.
UPSON
COUNTY SHERIFF DAN KILGORE SAID THE STUDENT WAS
LIFE-FLIGHTED TO AN OUT OF TOWN HOSPITAL AND THE ELDERLY
MALE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE E.R. BY AMBULANCE.
THE
SHERIFF TOLD ZOOM NEWS—THE CHILD WAS CONSCIOUS BUT HAD
HEAD AND LEG INJURIES AFTER BEING HIT IN HER DRIVE-WAY.
SHERIFF
KILGORE SAID PRELIMINARY INDICATIONS ARE THE DRIVER OF A
LINCOLN CONTINENTAL WAS BEHIND THE SCHOOL BUS AND ALLEGEDLY
IGNORED THE EXTENDED SAFETY ARM AND WARNING LIGHTS OF THE
STOPPED SCHOOL BUS AND CAME AROUND AND HIT THE CHILD.
THE
CAR THEN VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE.
THE
MEDI-COPTER LANDED IN A FIELD NEAR THE ACCIDENT SCENE—THE
SHERIFF TOLD US.
HIGHWAY
74 EAST WAS BLOCKED TO TRAFFIC FOR A WHILE FOLLOWING THE
ACCIDENT.
