IT
WILL PROBABLY BE THIS TIME NEXT YEAR BEFORE A NEW CLOCK
TOWER WILL BE INSTALLED ON THE ROOF OF THE UPSON COUNTY
COURTHOUSE. AT THE JUNE 25TH MEETING, THE BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS APPROVED A SCHEDULE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION ON THE
COURTHOUSE ROOF TO STOP THE LEAKS.
ACCORDING
TO PRECISION PLANNING THE KICK-OFF MEETING FOR THE PROJECT
WILL BE IN EARLY JULY AND ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS IN LATE
AUGUST, WITH BID OPENING IN SEPTEMBER. THE NOTICE TO
PROCEED SHOULD BE IN OCTOBER WITH ROOF REPAIRS AND FLASHINGS
FOR 4 MONTHS AND A NEW CLOCK TOWER INSTALLED IN MID-MAY,
2020.
CHAIRMAN
NORMAN ALLEN SAID THE NEW CLOCK TOWER WILL LOOK THE SAME
AS THE CURRENT ONE AND SOME TILES WILL BE REPLACED TO
COMPLETE THE JOB.
ORIGINALLY
THE COUNTY HOPED TO HAVE THE PROJECT COMPLETED THIS
SUMMER, BUT THE ROOF TROUBLES WERE GREATER THAN FIRST
THOUGHT.
COUNTY
MANAGER JASON TINSLEY SAYS THE COST IS STILL UP IN THE
AIR BUT ITS EXPECTED TO BE NORTH OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS.
