UPDATE ON SPALDING OFFICER AMANDA MOORE

ACCORDING TO SHERIFF DARRELL DIX, SPALDING COUNTY DETENTION OFFICER AMANDA MOORE, ALLEGEDLY SHOT IN THE HEAD BY HER 16 YEAR OLD ADOPTED DAUGHTER , WHILE IN BED ASLEEP WEDNESDAY , IS SHOWING SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT.

OFFICER MOORE, AGE 34 HAS A LONG ROAD TO RECOVERY, ACCORDING TO THE SHERIFF, BUT SHE HAS RESPONDED TO DOCTORS COMMANDS AND IS IN STABLE CONDITION AT ATLANTA MEDICAL CENTER.

HER DAUGHTER APPEARED AT AN ARRAIGNMENT HEARING THURSDAY AND WAS RETURNED TO THE REGIONAL YOUTH DETENTION CENTER IN CLAYTON COUNTY.

SHERIFF DIX SAYS HE HAS CONSULTED WITH THE OFFICE OF DISTRICT ATTORNEY BEN COKER AND THE SHERIFF HAS RECOMMENDED THE TEEN BE TRIED AS AN ADULT.

AFTER THE ALLEGED SHOOTING AT THEIR ETHERIDGE MILL RESIDENCE, THE TEEN WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY A SHORT TIME LATER WALKING ON ETHERIDGE MILL ROAD—BUT DID NOT HAVE THE 9MILLIMETER HANDGUN ALLEGEDLY USED IN THE SHOOTING—NOT THE OFFICERS DEPARTMENT ISSUED WEAPON.

AFTER THE SHOOTING, OFFICER MOORE'S SON RAN TO A NEIGHBORS, ONE A SPALDING COUNTY FIRE-FIGHER AND HIS WIFE A NURSE AND THEY RENDERED AID TILL EMS ARRIVED.
