THE UPSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOLLOWED A RECOMMENDATION BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION AND STAFF AND VOTED TO DENY A REZONING APPLICATION FOR A SANITARY LANDFILL, TUESDAY. THE LANDFILL WAS PROPOSED AT THE OLD KERSEY TIRE DUMP ON FIRETOWER ROAD BY THOMASTON NATIVE RON ANDERSON OF HENRY COUNTY.IN HIS CLOSING STATEMENT ANDERSON TOLD THE BOARD HE NEVER WANTED A LANDFILL, HIS INTENT ALL ALONG WAS TO CLEAN UP THE 105 ACRES HE OWNS. FIVE CITIZENS SPOKE AGAINST THE LANDFILL AGREEING WITH THE PLANNING AND ZONING STAFF IT WOULD DO ENVIRONMENTAL HARM.
