THE STATE BOE BACKS AWAY FROM MANDATING SCHOOL OPENINGS

THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES IN THE THOMASTON-UPSON COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL BE MONDAY AUGUST 17TH. SCHOOL SYSTEM SPOKES-PERSON KAREN TRUESDALE TOLD 101 NEWS THERE WERE REPORTS AT THURSDAY'S MEETING, THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION WOULD DISCUSS MOVING ALL SCHOOL OPENINGS IN GEORGIA TO SEPTEMBER BUT NO ACTION WAS TAKEN.

THE STATE BOARD IS STILL LEAVING IT UP TO LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

PARENTS HAVE BEEN ASKED TO RESPOND TO A SURVEY OF IN-PERSON OR REMOTE LEARNING FOR THEIR STUDENTS AND SO FAR MS. TRUESDALE SAYS IN - PERSON LEARNING IS LEADING WITH ABOUT 75% OF THE RESPONSES. PARENTS CAN STILL RESPOND TO THE SURVEY UNTIL MIDNIGHT NEXT WEDNESDAY--JUST LOG ON TO THE SCHOOL SYSTEM WEBSITE. OVER 600 RESPONSES HAVE BEEN RECORDED SO FAR, SHE TOLD US.
