At approximately 5:30 Tuesday morning two Griffin Police Officers,
traveling in the same patrol vehicle, were struck by a commercial vehicle
traveling west at the intersection of Georgia Highway 16 and Hammond Drive.
Preliminary investigations reveals that the commercial vehicle ran the red light
and struck the patrol vehicle on the driver’s side, continued west and
overturned.
Officer Amanda Frix, a veteran of the Griffin Police Department, was
transported by life-flight helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center with serious
injuries. Officer Erin McAdams, a recently certified rookie officer who was in her
field training stage with Officer Frix, was also injured and transported to
Wellstar/Spalding Hospital here in Griffin with non-life threatening injuries.
Officer Frix is in stable condition and Officer McAdams was treated and
released from Spalding Regional / Wellstar Hospital. Both are expected to make
a full recovery.
The
Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.
