AFTER
DELIBRATING 30 MINUTES WEDNESDAY AN UPSON COUNTY JURY
SENTENCED CHRISTOPHER CALMER TO LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT
PAROLE FOR THE MURDER OF DEPUTY MICHAEL NORRIS—THE UPSON
JURY WAS REPORTEDLY SPLIT 9 TO 3 IN FAVOR OF THE DEATH
PENALTY.
THE
FATHER OF DEPUTY NORRIS---BENNETT NORRIS TOLD THE TELEGRAPH
HE BELIEVES THE JURY WOULD HAVE REACHED A DIFFERENT
VERDICT—IF THEY COULD HAVE HEARD THE FAMILY SAY THEY
WANTED THE DEATH PENALTY.
THE
LAW DOES NOT ALLOW SUCH TESTIMONY DURING THE SENTENCING
PHASE OF A DEATH PENALTY CASE.
