A BODY WAS RECOVERED FROM LAKE THOMASTON BY SEARCH TEAMS LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT, ACCORDING TO POLICE CHIEF DAN GREATHOUSE, BELIEVED TO BE THE BODY OF DERKE SEAY OF 34 AVE. D. THE BODY WAS TURNED OVER TO THE P.D. AND UPSON COUNTY CORONER JAMES GEORGE AND ARRANGEMENTS WERE MADE TO TRANSPORT THE BODY TO THE STATE CRIME LAB FOR AUTOPSY AND A POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION.
POLICE RECEIVED A REPORT EARLY TUESDAY MORNING THAT A 2007 NISSAN MURANO WAS STOLEN FROM 34 AVE. D AROUND 8AM. THE OWNER BRENDA SEAY SAID SHE MISSED THE CAR AFTER HER SON,DERKE TOOK OUT THE GARBAGE.
AFTER WORKMEN FOUND DAMAGE TO THE CHAIN LINK FENCE AROUND LAKE THOMASTON, AND SPOTTED A PILL BOTTLE AND AUTO PARTS IN THE WATER, A SEARCH WAS MOBILIZED TO SEARCH FOR A VEHICLE THAT HAD BEEN DRIVEN INTO THE LAKE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE SUV WAS PULLED FROM THE WATER TUESDAY AROUND 6;30PM. A DOZEN AGENCIES PARTICIPATED IN THE TWO DAY SEARCH.
