A PROPOSAL TO PUT A LANDFILL AT THE OLD KERSEY TIRE DUMP ON FIRETOWER ROAD IS GENERATING A HIGH VOLUME OF CALLS TO THE UPSON COUNTY ZONING OFFICE. ZONING DIRECTOR CHAD JACOBS SAYS THE ITEM IS ON THE AGENDA FOR MONDAY’S 5;30 MEETING OF THE UPSON PLANNING COMMISSION. THOMASTON NATIVE RON ANDERSON OF HENRY COUNTY OWNS THE 105 ACRES AND IS REQUESTING AR ZONING BE CHANGED TO M-2 PLUS A SPECIAL EXCEPTION WILL BE REQUIRED. ZONING CHIEF JACOBS SAYS STATE EPD HAS BEEN OVERSEEING A CLEAN-UP OF THE SITE THAT ONCE HAD 3.6 MILLION OLD TIRES, BUT HE PLANS TO RECOMMEND DENIAL OF THE REZONING.
