THE THOMASTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVED RATE INCREASES IN WATER AND SEWER AND ELECTRICITY AT TUESDAY’S MEETING. CITY MANAGER PATRICK COMISKEY TOLD TGA NEWS, THE AVERAGE RESIDENTIAL WATER AND SEWER CUSTOMER WILL PAY $5 MORE PER MONTH. CITY HALL IS FACING A 10.7% INCREASE IN WHOLESALE POWER COSTS AND IS SPREADING THE HIKE OVER TWO YEARS. A 6.5% INCREASE FOR RESIDENTIAL AND 5.5 % FOR COMMERCIAL, THROUGH 2012, BUT COUNCILMAN ED BELL NOTED ITS MUCH LESS THAN GA. POWER’S RECENT RATE HIKE. MAYOR HAYS ARNOLD SAID HE REGRETS STARTING THE NEW YEAR WITH UTILITY INCREASES, BUT THEY ARE NECESSARY FOR THE CITY’S CONTINUED SUCCESSFUL OPERATION.
