THE UPSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TURNED DOWN AN 11TH HOUR PROPOSAL ON THE 2011 SPLOST BY THE CITY OF THOMASTON , AND AT TUESDAY’S MEETING APPROVED A FIVE YEAR $16 MILLION SALES TAX MEASURE FOR THE MARCH BALLOT. BASED ON POPULATION, THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT WOULD RECEIVE 8.4 MILLION, THE CITY OF THOMASTON 4.1 AND THE CITY OF YATESVILLE $176,000. THE COMMISSIONERS ADDED HALF A MILLION FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND $200,000 FOR UPGRADES TO THE SILVERTOWN TENNIS COURTS. THE LARGEST ITEM $4.3 MILLION FOR ROADS AND BRIDGES, 2.1 FOR THE CIVIC CENTER .
