COUNTY MANAGER JIM WHEELESS SAID THE UPSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MET WITH OWNERS MARGIE AND JIM MCDANIEL, THEIR ATTORNEY AND THE COUNTY ATTORNEY, THURSDAY AND REACHED AN ACCORD.
FLINT RIVER OUTDOOR CENTER WILL PAY PARKING FEES OF $650 ANNUALLY TO UPSON COUNTY FOR FOUR VEHICLES, UP FROM THE $100 ANNUALLY THE STATE DNR CHARGED BEFORE UPSON COUNTY ASSUMED OPERATION.
COUNTY GOVERNMENT HAD NOTIFIED THE MCDANIELS THEY COULD NO LONGER OPERATE THE SHUTTLE SERVICE AFTER JUNE 30, AFTER PUBLIC COMPLAINTS THEIR PATRONS WERE NOT PAYING A PARKING FEE, AS OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC.
THE MCDANIEL’S ATTORNEY JOHNNIE CALDWELL JR. TOLD 101 NEWS THERE WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING ON BOTH SIDES, BUT THE COUNTY, ACCORDING TO STATE LAW CAN ONLY CHARGE A PARKING FEE AND NOT AN ACCESS FEE.
