AT TUESDAY’S REGULAR MEETING THE VOTE WAS 3 TO 1 WITH CHAIRMAN RUSTY BLACKSTON OPPOSED. VICE-CHAIRMAN RALPH ELLINGTON EXPLAINED , WHEN THE BOARD CUT THE FUNDING DURING 2014 BUDGET PREP THEY THOUGHT IT COULD BE COVERED WITH SPLOST MONEY, BUT THAT TURNED OUT NOT TO BE THE CASE. ITS RETROACTIVE TO JAN IST, 2014. COMMISSIONER FRANK SPRAGGINS WAS ABSENT DUE TO ILLNESS.
CHAIRMAN BLACKSTON TOLD REPORTERS AFTER THE MEETING, HE BELIEVES THE BOARD COULD FUND A COUNTY-WIDE FIRE DEPARTMENT BY USING GRANT FUNDS THAT ARE AVAILABLE.
