ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT CREWS WERE WORKING ON WEST WALKER, HIGHTOWER AND S. STREET, TRIUNE AVE. , SHARMAN ST. AND GEORGIA AVE. TO RESOLVE OUTAGES. THE C.M. SAID THE ICE IS GONE BUT THERE’S LOOSE LIMBS EVERYWHERE THAT CONTINUE TO CAUSE PROBLEMS.
UPSON EMC REPORTED 221 CUSTOMERS WITHOUT POWER IN UPSON AND PIKE COUNTIES AT 4;30PM THURSDAY. UPSON EMC HAS EXPERIENCED SOME PHONE SYSTEM PROBLEMS DURING THIS STORM.
SOUTHERN RIVERS ENERGY BASED IN BARNESVILLE HAD 41 ADDTIONAL PERSONNEL WORKING ON OUTAGES THAT TOTALED 8400 BY MID-DAY THURSDAY. PIKE, LAMAR, UPSON, MERIWETHER SOME OF THE MAJOR SECTORS OF THEIR 9-COUNTY SYSTEM.
GA. POWER HAD 4300 OUTAGES LATE THURSDAY IN WEST CENTRAL GA.
UPSON COUNTY SHERIFF DAN KILGORE SAID E-911 EXPERIENCED ISSUES DUE TO POWER SURGES AND EARLIER THURSDAY REROUTED TRAFFIC THROUGHT THE PIKE COUNTY 911 SYSTEM, BUT LATER WENT BACK ON LINE. THE SHERIFF SAID 911 DIRECTOR CARL MCKINNEY PULLED AN ALL-NIGHTER WORKING TO KEEP THE SYSTEM UP AND GOING. THE SHERIFF THANKED THE MANY VOLUNTEERS, VOLUNTARY FIRE DEPARTMENTS, UPSON RESCUE AND OTHERS WHO ASSISTED UPSON EMA AT ITS COMMAND POST. THE MOBILE UNIT HAD TO BE USED AT ONE POINT DUE TO POWER OUTAGE ISSUES, ACCORDING TO EMA DIRECTOR MARTHA ANNE MCCARTY.
