THE RETIRED PRESIDENT AND CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF BANK OF UPSON, ROBERT CRAVEY WAS GIVEN THE THOMASTON SERTOMA CLUB SERVICE TO MANKIND AWARD, THURSDAY. MR. CRAVEY WAS UNABLE TO ATTEND SO THE AWARD WAS ACCEPTED BY FAMILY MEMBERS. HE HELPED FORM BANK OF UPSON IN 1951 AND BECAME PRESIDENT IN 1954. HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, SERVED ON THE SCHOOL BOARD AND ON VIRTUALLY EVERY COMMITTEE AT FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. MR. CRAVEY’S PLANE WAS SHOT DOWN ON A BOMBING MISSION IN ITALY IN 1945 AND THE UNDERGROUND HID HIM FROM THE ENEMY UNTIL THE WAR ENDED.
