CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS WANTS TO BUY THE NEW LIFE CHURCH PROPERTY ON WOODLAND ROAD AND MOVE THE CABLE TV OFFICE TO THAT SITE. AT MONDAY’S MEETING OF THE UPSON PLANNING COMMISSION, THE BOARD VOTED TO REZONE THE PROPERTY O-I. THE JOINT CITY-COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION HAD VOTED FOR THE PROPOSAL LAST WEEK. THE JOINT BOARD HAD INPUT BECAUSE THE PROPERTY IS WITHIN 300 FEET OF THE CITY LIMITS. CHARTER’S AGENT GARY SELF SAID THERE IS LIMITED PARKING AT THE CURRENT OFFICE ON SOUTH CENTER STREET, THE COMPANY ALREADY OWNS THE PROPERTY THAT SURROUNDS NEW LIFE CHURCH, AND TECH PERSONNEL ARE ALREADY BASED AT THE TOWER. THE COMPANY APPLIED FOR C-2 ZONING BUT PLANNING COMMISSION DIRECTOR CHAD JACOBS WOULD NOT AGREE TO IT, CALLING IT SPOT ZONING. HE FOUND OFFICE ZONING AS A WORKABLE SOLUTION. THE ITEM NOW GOES TO THE UPSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR A FINAL DECISION.
