THE THOMASTON UPSON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 64TH ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET WAS THURSDAY NIGHT, AND THE LATE JOE WHITE WAS THE RECEIPIENT OF THE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IT WAS PRESENTED POSTHUMOUSLY AND THE FIRST TIME IT WAS AWARDED TO AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN. PENNY CLIFF, OF THE THOMASTON UPSON ARCHIEVES, IN PRESENTING THE AWARD TO MR. WHITE’S FAMILY, SHARED HIS COMMITTMENT TO CIVIL RIGHTS, HE MARCHED WITH DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR., HE WAS ACTIVE IN THE UPSON HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND WAS INVOLVED IN YOUTH RECREATION PROGRAMS, FORMING A BOXING CLUB. THE OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY AWARD TO THE FOUNDERS OF SMOKE ON THE WATER, DUSTIN FORDHAM, BOBBY BICKLEY, NASH AUSTIN, JEREMY DANIEL, JOSH WEEMS,RYAN TUCKER,JEREMY SALTER AND SETH PERDUE.
