THE STATE FIRE MARSHALL'S OFFICE REPORTS A HOUSE FIRE MONDAY AT THE RESIDENCE OF ONE-TIME THOMASTON CITY COUNCIL MEMBER ROBERT COCHRAN STARTED FROM A CLOTHES DRYER THAT WAS OPERATING IN A UTILITY ROOM NEAR THE CARPORT AT 706 GREENWOOD ROAD.
ACCORDING TO CAPTAN LEE BROWN OF THE THOMASTON FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE STATE FIRE MARSHALL'S OFFICE INVESTIGATED THE CAUSE OF THE BLAZE, WEDNESDAY AND INDICATIONS ARE IT STARTED FROM THE CLOTHES DRYER.
MR. COCHRAN AND HIS DAUGHTER SUSAN WERE AT HOME AT THE TIME AND HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION, THE HOUSE FILLED WITH SMOKE AND FLAMES WENT TO THE ROOF, DESTROYING THE RESIDENCE OCCUPIED IN 1957, AND TORCHING TWO VEHICLES PARKED IN THE CARPORT.
