A SENIOR ON THE UPSON-LEE LADY KNIGHTS BASKETBALL TEAM HAS BEEN CHARGED BY THE MONROE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, WITH THROWING A FIST AT A JACKSON CHEERLEADER AFTER LOSING IN THE REGION TOURNAMENT AT MARY PERSONS LAST MONTH.
ACCORDING TO A FRONT PAGE STORY OF THE MONROE COUNTY ADVERTISER NEWSPAPER, 17 YEAR OLD AZIYAH TAILA PERRY TURNED HERSELF IN TO MONROE COUNTY S.O. FEBRUARY 28TH FOR A MISDEMEANOR CHARGE OF AFFRAY. MS. PERRY'S PHOTO IS ON THE FRONT PAGE.
DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO THE FIGHT AND THE S.O. HAD ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO ALLOW THE TWO SCHOOLS TO HANDLE DISCIPLINE BUT GREW CONCERNED THEY MIGHT HANDLE IT DIFFERENTLY, SO CHARGES WERE FILED. SHERIFF BRAD FREEMAN WAS QUOTED IN THE ARTICLE AS SAYING U-L PLAYERS COMPLAINED THAT THE JACKSON CHEERLEADERS " STIRRED THEM UP" DURING THE GAME, BUT THE SHERIFF DISMISSED THAT DEFENSE.
101 NEWS RECEIVED A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE MONROE S.O. RIGHT AFTER THE FIGHT, BUT AT THE TIME IT WAS JUST UNDER INVESTIGATION. WE THEN QUESTIONED U-L SCHOOL OFFICIALS ABOUT THE INCIDENT AT LEAST TWICE, BUT THEY OFFERED NO COMMENT.
