THE CITY OF THOMASTON'S ORIGINAL 1965 ZONING ORDIANCE IS BEING REPLACED. CONSULTANT BILL JOHNSON BRIEFED THE ZONING COMMISSION ON THE PROPOSED NEW ORDIANCE SEVERAL DAYS AGO AND THEN MADE A PRESENTATION DURING A PUBLIC HEARING HELD BY CITY COUNCIL AT TUESDAY'S MEETING. TWO CITIZENS TESTIFIED DURING THE HEARING. THE CURRENT ORDIANCE IS A PATCH-WORK OF UPDATES OVER THE YEARS AND CITY MANAGER RUSSELL THOMPSON SAYS THE PROPOSED NEW ORDIANCE WILL BRING THE ZONING CODE UP TO SPEED FOR THE FUTURE . THE ZONING COMMISSION AND COUNCIL WERE INVITED TO FOWARD INPUT AFTER HEARING JOHNSON'S PRESENTATION. AS PART OF THE NEW ORDIANCE PACKAGE ALCOHOL STORES AND TWO DOWNTOWN BARS WILL BE ALLOWED.
THE CITY COUNCIL IS EXPECTED TO APPROVE THE NEW ZONING ORDIANCE NEXT MONTH.
