THE UPSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS HAVE MOVED TO PUT MAJOR LANDSCAPING AT THE COURTHOUSE GROUNDS OUT FOR BID FOLLOWING A STUDY OF THE SITE. THE TWO MAGNOLIA TREES WILL BE REMOVED, ACCORDING TO CHAIRMAN NORMAL ALLEN. THEIR ROOT SYSTEMS HAVE CAUSED PROBLEMS WITH UTILITY LINES.
DURING WEDNESDAY'S WORK SESSION THE BOARD WAS TOLD DRAWINGS ARE MOVING FOWARD FOR THE NEW JUSTICE CENTER SOUTH OF THOMASTON AND THE $22 MILLION BUDGET IS INTACT. SOME TREES SHOULD BE REMOVED BEGINNING IN MARCH, ACCORDING TO PARRISH CONSTRUCTION CO.
