THE THOMASTON CITY COUNCIL MEETS TONITE AT 7PM AND SEVERAL PUBLIC HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED BUT THE ONLY REZONING ITEM TO BE VOTED ON IS TWO TRACTS AT 403 NORTH CHURCH AT WEST WALKER FROM R-1 TO C-2. CITY MANAGER RUSSELL THOMPSON TOLD US THE THOMASTON ZONING COMMISSION VOTED TO RECOMMEND DENIAL FOR AN APARTMENT COMPLEX ON VETERANS DRIVE MONDAY BUT THAT WILL BE VOTED ON BY CITY COUNCIL AT THE AUGUST 16TH MEETING, NOT AT TONIGHTS COUNCIL MEEETING ALTHOUGH A PUBLIC HEARING WILL BE HELD ON IT TONIGHT. THE ZONING COMMISSION APPROVED A SPECIAL USE PERMIT FOR WOODY HEATH AT THE OLD TRAIN DEPOT FOR A SPECIAL EVENTS VENUE OR FOR A POTENTIAL PACKAGE STORE AND APPROVED A SPECIAL USE PERMIT FOR JARED HUCKABY AT 220 NORTH HIGHTOWER FOR A SPECIAL EVENTS VENUE. THOSE TWO ISSUES ALSO WILL BE VOTED ON AUGUST 16TH. THE CITY MANAGER SAID THE NEW ZONING ORDIANCE IS CHANGING THE CURRENT PROCESS FROM THREE PUBLIC HEARINGS TO ONE PUBLIC HEARING TO STREAMLINE THE REZONING PROCEDURE BUT HE ADDED THERE WILL BE SOME UPHEAVAL MAKING THE CHANGE.
