A MONROE COUNTY MAN FORMERLY OF THOMASTON, CHRIS BURKETT, AGE 47 DIED ALONG WITH TWO FEMALES WHEN A FREIGHT TRAIN HIT AN SUV, STUCK ON THE TRACKS, ABOUT A MILE WEST OF THE GA. PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING CENTER, WEDNESDAY EVENING.
ACCORDING TO THE MONROE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, TWO VICTIMS WERE INSIDE A FORD FLEX WHEN IT BECAME STUCK AND BURKETT WAS TRYING TO FREE THE VEHICLE WHEN THEY WERE HIT BY THE TRAIN. THE TWO FEMALES IDENTIFIED AS SHIRLEY TREADWELL, 93 AND DEBRA RUTH HALL, AGE 66 BOTH OF MONROE COUNTY.
THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED AT A PRIVATE RAILROAD CROSSING BETWEEN U.S. 41 AND 1-75. AT GOODWYNE AND COLLIER ROADS.
