THOMASTON POLICE CHIEF MIKE RICHARDSON SAID A 4 YEAR BOY WAS LIFE-FLIGHTED TO EGLESTON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN ATLANTA WITH SEVERE INJURIES FROM AN AUTO ACCIDENT ON 74 EAST NEAR THE GILMORE CENTER, FRIDAY MORNING.
4 OTHERS WERE INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE E.R. BY EMS--A MOTHER AND FATHER AND TWO OTHER CHILDREN. CHIEF RICHARDSON SAID THE 4 YEAR OLD WAS UNRESPONSIVE WHEN EMT'S ARRIVED--BUT THEY MANAGED TO GENERATE A PULSE.
THE CHIEF TOLD 101 NEWS--THE AUTO WAS HEADED TOWARD DOWNTOWN THOMASTON ON 74 WHEN IT BLEW A TIRE, CROSSED OVER A LANE AND HIT A CONCRETE BARRIER NEAR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIELD.
THOMASTON PD TURNED THE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION OVER TO POST 26 GA. STATE PATROL. INITIALLY TWO HELICOPTERS WERE DISPATCHED BUT ONLY ONE WAS NEEDED.
