DA COKER, NO DEATH PENALTY CASE IN LAMAR MAN DEATH

ACCORDING TO GRIFFIN JUDICIAL CIRCUIT DISTRICT ATTORNEY BEN COKER HIS OFFICE WILL NOT SEEK THE DEATH PENALTY AGAINST TWO DEFENDANTS FOR THE MURDER OF A LAMAR COUNTY MAN, RODERICK CRAWFORD IN LINCOLN PARK.

18 YEAR OLD KIERA WILLIAMS AND 20 YEAR OLD CAMERON JONES WERE INDICTED BY THE UPSON COUNTY GRAND JURY ON MURDER AND OTHER CHARGES IN MARCH FOR THE SHOOTING DEATH OF CRAWFORD WHO ALLEGEDLY AGREED TO MEET WILLIAMS ON AN ESCORT SERVICE WEBSITE.

WILLIAMS AND JONES APPARENTLY INTENDED TO ROB THE VICTIM.

D.A. COKER TOLD ZOOM NEWS HE DISCUSSED THE POSSIBILTY OF THE DEATH PENALTY EARLY ON WITH CRAWFORD'S FAMILY AND INFORMED THEM IT COULD BE 3 TO 4 YEARS BEFORE THE CASE COULD GO TO TRIAL—AND THEY WERE IN AGREEMENT IT SHOULD NOT MOVE FOWARD.

ARRAIGNMENT FOR THE COUPLE IS SET FOR LATER THIS MONTH IN UPSON SUPERIOR COURT—TRIAL POSSIBLY IN THE FALL.

THEY ARE ALSO CHARGED WITH MURDER IN CLAYTON COUNTY.
