THE GA. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY HAS FINED JORDAN FORESTRY PRODUCTS AT 752 GROVE ST. IN BARNESVILLE $9900 FOR KILLING 172 FISH.
THOMASTON CITY MANAGER PATRICK COMISKEY SAID A DECISION WAS MADE TO STOP PUMPING FROM POTATO CREEK SEPT. 30, 2013, AFTER OBSERVING A BLACK SUBSTANCE IN THE WATER NEAR THE HIGHWAY 18 BRIDGE AT THE LAMAR-PIKE COUNTY LINE. THE CITY WATER SYSTEM SWITCHED TO DRAWING FROM LAKE THOMASTON BUT RESUMED PUMPING FROM POTATO CREEK DEC. 6TH AFTER E.P.A. GAVE THE O.K.
IN ITS REPORT, E.P.A. SAID HEAVY RAINS CAUSED THE SEDIMENTATION POND AT THE JORDAN COMPANY TO OVERFLOW AND WASH WOOD LEACHATE INTO THE UNAMED TRIBUTARY AND DOWNSTEAM TO POTATO CREEK.
