THE GEORGIA GAS TAX WILL RISE BY THREE CENTS A GALLON, SUNDAY—THE RESULT OF A FORMULA TIED TO FUEL PRICES. FORMER GOVERNOR SONNY PERDUE HALTED AN INCREASE IN 2009 ,BUT ITS UNLIKELY GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL WILL DO IT. THE STATE IS PROJECTED TO REAP AN $80 MILLION WINDFALL BECAUSE OF SPIKING PUMP PRICES. THE STATE LEGISLATURE CONSIDERED MAKING CHANGES IN THE GAS TAX RULES, IN THE SESSION THAT ENDED EARLIER THIS MONTH, BUT TOOK NO ACTION.
