ON A 4-1 VOTE THE THOMASTON-UPSON PLANNING COMMISSION VOTED TO RECOMMEND DENIAL FOR A 180 UNIT APARTMENT COMPLEX FROM A MARIETTA COMPANY ON 12 ACRES ON VETERANS DRIVE--MONDAY. BOARD MEMBER JOEL PITTS MADE THE MOTION TO DENY AND CHAIR JOHN BROADNAX, AND MEMBERS ELISA MCKINLEY, AND ASHTON FALLIN VOTED FOR THE MOTION. PRESCILLA MCCOY CAST THE LONE VOTE AGAINST THE MOTION--TELLING 101 NEWS AFTER THE MEETING SHE FAVORS THE DEVELOPMENT.
UPSON COUNTY COMMISSIONER BEN WATSON WHO LIVES ON HILL STREET WAS SPOKESMAN FOR THE CITIZENS AT THE MEETING WHO OPPOSE IT.
SINCE THE SITE IS SO CLOSE TO THE COUNTY, THE JOINT PLANNING COMMISSION WAS REQUIRED TO MAKE A RECOMMENDATION . IT WILL BE ON THE AGENDA OF THE THOMASTON ZONING COMMISSION FOR A RECOMMENDATION IN AUGUST--POSTPONED FROM JUNE BECAUSE NEAR-BY PROPERTY OWNERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED AS REQUIRED BY THE NEW ZONING ORDIANCE.
THE RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE FOWARDED TO THE CITY COUNCIL AT THE 2ND MEETING IN AUGUST FOR A VOTE.
