POLICE CHIEF MIKE RICHARDSON TOLD 101 NEWS , OFFICER DIANA SANCHEZ WAS ANSWERING A CALL TO A MEDICAL EMERGENCY WITH LIGHTS AND SIREN ACTIVATED WHEN A LATE MODEL CHEVROLET TAHOE APPEARED AT THE INTERSECTION AND WAS T-BONED BY THE P.D. SUV. THE TAHOE DRIVER, RUTH SOLOMON OF BIBB COUNTY WAS TRANSPORTED TO A MACON HOSPITAL AND CHIEF RICHARDSON SAID HE WENT TO MACON TO CHECK ON HER CONDITION AND TOLD US MS. SOLOMON RECEIVED BROKEN RIBS AND INTERNAL INJURIES AND WILL PROBABLY REQUIRE SURGERY.
OFFICER SANCHEZ WAS TREATED AND RELEASED AT THE E.R. AND IS BANGED UP AND BRUISED--THE CHIEF SAID.
WE WERE TOLD MS. SOLOMON HAD BEEN
PLAYING PICKELBALL IN THOMASTON AND WAS ENROUTE TO TALBOT COUNTY WHERE SHE OWNS A BUSINESS , WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED. THE LATE MODEL TAHOE SHE WAS DRIVING WAS DEMOLISHED WITH HEAVY FRONT END DAMAGE, THE FRONT LEFT TIRE WAS LYING ON THE PAVEMENT WHEN IT CAME TO REST JUST WEST OF THE INTERSECTION. THE P.D. FORD SUV HAD EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE AFTER HITTING THE BUILDING AND SOME DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT REAR. BOTH PROBABLY TOTALED.
POST 26 GA. STATE PATROL COMMANDER SGT. LAWRENCE HAROLD RELATED THAT THE STATE PATROL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION TEAM WILL BE CONDUCTING THE FORMAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE MISHAP.
