DEMOCRAT WANTS STATUE OF JOHN B. GORDON REMOVED

THE STATE DEMOCRATIC HOUSE MINORITY LEADER--BOB TRAMMELL OF MERIWETHER COUNTY HAS CALLED ON GOVERNOR BRIAN KEMP TO REMOVE THE STATUE OF CONFEDERATE GENERAL JOHN B. GORDON FROM THE CAPITAL GROUNDS. JOHN B. GORDON AN UPSON COUNTY NATIVE WHO WAS BORN ON WHAT IS NOW THE GREENE PROPERTY IN SOUTHERN UPSON COUNTY.

TRAMMELL SENT A LETTER TO GOVERNOR KEMP MONDAY CALLING THE PRESENCE OF GORDON'S STATUE- DIVISIVE AND OFFENSIVE.

GORDON WAS A CONFEDERATE GENERAL, GA. GOVERNOR AND SENATOR WHO IS BELIEVED TO BE THE HEAD OF THE KU KLUX KLAN IN THE STATE AFTER THE CIVIL WAR.

HIS FATHER WAS MINISTER OF A BAPTIST CHURCH IN SOUTHERN UPSON CO.
