PROTESTERS AT UL MIDDLE SCHOOL

OFFICIALS WITH THE THOMASTON-UPSON SCHOOL SYSTEM WERE TAKEN-ABACK FRIDAY AS CLASSES LET OUT—TO FIND 4 PICKETTS WITH PROTEST SIGNS AT UL MIDDLE SCHOOL.

NEWLY APPOINTED SCHOOL SUPERINTENDANT DR. LARRY DERICO TOLD ZOOM NEWS—THEY WERE PROFESSIONAL PROTESTERS ASSOCIATED WITH A STATE TEACHER'S ORGANIZATION. IT COSTS $500 PER YEAR TO JOIN AND IF A TEACHER HAS A GRIEVANCE WITH A SCHOOL—THEY SHOW-UP AND PROTEST. DR. DERICO SAID THEY SEEMED TO KNOW LITTLE ABOUT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.


ASSISTANT SCHOOL SUPERINTENDANT DR. MIKE GATLIN SAID HE TOLD THEM—THEY MUST HAVE THE WRONG SCHOOL—AS PRINCIPAL RHONDA GULLEY WAS NAMED STATE PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR IN 2017.
