SENTENCING FOR SAMUEL BREWTON III IN UPSON SUPERIOR COURT

IN UPSON SUPERIOR COURT, WEDNESDAY, A JURY STAYED OUT JUST UNDER AN HOUR BEFORE FINDING SAMUEL BREWTON III GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS FOR SHOOTING NEAR AND ENDANGERING BOATERS IN THE FLINT RIVER OFF ROLAND ROAD, IN APRIL 2020. 

THE VICTIMS WERE RUSS MCGEE OF THOMASTON AND SEVERAL OF HIS FAMILY MEMBERS.

BREWTON WAS CHARGED WITH 4 COUNTS OF AGGREVATED ASSAULT AND 2 COUNTS OF RECKLESS CONDUCT, CHARGES THAT CARRIED A MAXIMUM SENTENCE OF 62 YEARS.

THE CHIEF JUDGE OF THE GRIFIFN JUDICIAL CIRCUIT, FLETCHER SAMS SENTENCED BREWTON TO 40 YEARS, 10 YEARS TO SERVE , 30 YEARS PROBATION, A $10,000 FINE AND BANISHMENT FROM THE GRIFFIN JUDICIAL CIRCUIT. 

BREWTON DID NOT TESTIFY DURING THE TRIAL.

DURING SENTENCING JUDGE SAMS TOLD BREWTON HE WAS 5 FEET FROM A MURDER WHEN HE FIRED SEVERAL SHOTS FROM A RIFLE NEAR THE CANOES.

DISTRICT ATTORNEY MARIE BRODER TOLD 101 NEWS AFTER SENTENCING, IT WAS A DIFFICULT CASE BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TRIAL IN OVER A YEAR IN UPSON COUNTY, AND IT MANDATED SOCIAL DISTANCING AND MASKS FOR THE JURY AND COURT OFFICIALS DUE TO COVID-19
