THOMASTON'S ETHICS COMMITTEE TO RETAIN ATTORNEY DAVID DUNAWAY

THE CITY OF THOMASTON ETHICS COMMITTEE HAS VOTED TO RETAIN ATTORNEY DAVID DUNAWAY TO ADVISE THE BOARD ON THE ETHICS HEARING SET FOR MAYOR PRO TEM DOUG HEAD ON THE R.E. LEE CONFEDERATE IMAGERY ISSUE.

THE ETHICS COMMITTEE MET MOSTLY IN EXECUTIVE SESSION TUESDAY AND RETURNED WITH THE MOTION TO SELECT ATTORNEY DUNAWAY. IT TOOK NO OTHER ACTION.

MAYOR PRO TEM DOUG HEAD TOLD US HE HAS RETAINED THE SERVICES OF GRIFFIN ATTORNEY NEWTON GALLOWAY TO REPRESENT HIM.

CITY HALL WILL PAY ALL THE LEGAL FEES OF THE TWO ATTORNEYS. COUNCIL ATTORNEY DEANN WHEELER HAS STATED SHE CAN NOT REPRESENT THE ETHICS BOARD OR COUNCILMAN HEAD AS THE ETHICS COMMITTEE IS CHARGED WITH MAKING A RECOMMENDATION TO COUNCIL FOLLOWING THE HEARING.

THE THREE MEMBERS OF THE ETHICS COMMITTEE INCLUDE CHAIRMAN RONALD VAN HOUTEN, CONSTANCE FLINT AND BOB COCHRAN. AT LAST WEEK'S MEETING THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED A MOTION THAT TWO ETHICS COMPLAINTS FILED AGAINST ETHICS CHAIRMAN RONALD VAN HOUTEN HAD NO MERIT. COUNCILMAN HEAD ABSTAINED FROM VOTING.
