UPSON EMA UPDATE ON IRMA

ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HURRICANE IRMA CONTINUES TO WEAKEN AS IT MOVES INTO GEORGIA—BUT ITS STILL A DANGEROUS STORM.

GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL HAS ISSUED A STATE OF EMERGENCY FOR THE ENTIRE STATE—AND UPSON COUNTY AND ALL COUNTIES IN CENTRAL GA. TO ATLANTA ARE UNDER A TROPICAL STORM WARNING.

ACCORDING TO UPSON COUNTY EMA DIRECTOR MARTHA ANN MCCARTY—THE SEVERE WEATHER IN THIS AREA WILL BEGIN BETWEEN 8AM AND NOON AND WILL PEAK BETWEEN NOON AND 8PM---WINDS 40 MILES PER HOUR WITH GUSTS TO 60 PLUS 3 TO 6 INCHES OF RAIN AND POSSIBLE ISOLATED TORNADOS—THAT COULD BE WRAPPED IN RAIN BANDS WITH NO WARNING.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH ALSO IN AFFECT. VACATE MOBILE HOMES AND STAY INDOORS—A GOOD SAMARITAN SHELTER IS AVAILABLE AT NORTHSIDE BAPTIST CHURCH AT 423 EAST COUNTY ROAD.
