THE SPALDING COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS COULD BE LOOKING AT BUILDING A NEW COMBO JUSTICE CENTER/ SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND JAIL THAT CHAIRMAN CLAY DAVIS SAYS MIGHT COST AS MUCH AS $200 MILLION. A GROUP OF JUDGES, ATTORNEYS AND CONCERNED CITIZENS TOURED THE COURTHOUSE AND JAIL AND REPORTED TO THE BOARD MONDAY. THE BOARD WAS TOLD THE JAIL IS IN DEPLORABLE CONDITION DUE TO LACK OF UPKEEP AND THE COURTHOUSE BUILT FOR 5 JUDGES, NOW HAS OVER A DOZEN. SOME SECRETARIES HAVE THEIR OFFICES IN HALLWAYS.
THE NEXT STEP APPARENTLY IS A STUDY ON WHAT THE NEEDS ARE FOR THE SHERIFF AND JAIL AND COURTHOUSE AND CHAIRMAN DAVIS SUGGESTED THE HENRY COUNTY COMPLEX IS A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR SPALDING COUNTY TO FOLLOW.
