TORNADO IN PIKE CO. SATURDAY

ACCORDING TO PIKE COUNTY EMA DIRECTOR JIMMY TOTTEN, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED AN E-F-ZERO TORNADO IN THE CONCORD AREA SATURDAY EVENING , PACKING WINDS OF 70 TO 80 MILES PER HOUR. IT TOUCHED DOWN IN THE HILLTOP AREA ON HILL STREET AND TRAVELED TWO MILES AT 200 YARDS WIDE. EMA REPORTS NO STRUCTURE DAMAGE BUT TREES WERE DOWNED AND POWER WAS KNOCKED OUT FOR SEVERAL HOURS. RESIDENTS OF THE CONCORD ESTATES SUBDIVISION ARE CONVINCED A TORNADO STRUCK THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD ABOUT HALF A MILE AWAY. THERE WAS SHINGLE AND SIDING DAMAGE TO HOUSES AND TREES WERE FELLED. DIRECTOR TOTTEN SAID THE NWS PLANS TO GO BACK AND CHECK ITS RADAR TO SEE IF IT WAS A TORNADO OR STRAIGHT LINE WINDS THAT CAUSED THAT DAMAGE. ;PIKE COUNTY, UPSON, SPALDING, LAMAR, AND BUTTS COUNTIES WERE UNDER A TORNADO WARNING DURING THAT PERIOD.
